James Steiner with Helianthus attended the Meeting of the Minds Summit in Phoenix, AZ in late February. The conference focuses on how to design and manage more sustainable, resilient cities, subjects that landscape architects find important as we strive to create better communities for all people. James toured the oldest African-American church in Arizona in the Eastlake neighborhood, and saw Roosevelt Row, a revitalized arts district where buildings are made from shipping containers and native plants thrive in the arid streets. Both areas were close to downtown, walkable, and had a variety of places to live, eat and socialize.
